French paste?is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems.?This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A?fabulous French paste?pin?from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is in the shape of a lucky four leaf clover and encrusted with 22 sparkling closed back French paste stones. The stones are?set in sterling silver and the pin has a 3-dimensional look. On the back of the piece is a large pin clasp with the original c-catch clasp. It is stamped "STERLING" along with the number "35". It's?a fabulous and fun?piece?for?any collector!
Measurements:?The paste pin measures 1 1/8" at the widest point, 1 1/4" at the tallest point and?is 3/8" thick. ?
Condition:?The overall condition of the pin is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the silver setting or paste stones and the?pin clasp?is secure and in good working condition.
